Community Links
Our school is deeply embedded in the community, fostering strong partnerships with local organisations and businesses. We collaborate with nearby schools to offer enriching extracurricular programs and volunteer opportunities. Our community engagement initiatives aim to create a supportive environment that benefits both our children and local residents, enhancing educational experiences and community well-being. Through events, outreach, and shared resources, our school and community grow together, creating a vibrant and interconnected network.
Leafield Pre-School
At Leafield Primary School, we are proud of our close relationship with Leafield Pre-School. Our children regularly visit the pre-school to read and engage with the younger children, fostering a strong sense of community and nurturing relationships. The pre-schoolers are also invited to attend our KS1 nativity performances, giving them a glimpse into life at primary school. Additionally, we offer a variety of transition activities to support the pre-schoolers' journey to primary school, ensuring a smooth and confident transition into their next stage of learning.
Burford Secondary School
Leafield belongs to the Burford Partnership with eight other schools - Burford Primary, Brize Norton Primary, Burford Primary, Bampton Primary, St Kenelm's Primary (Minster Lovell), St Christopher's Primary (Langford), Wychwood Primary and Clanfield Primary. Burford Secondary School is also in the partnership, and they host a whole range of festivals and tournaments for primary schools to take part in.
Bikeability
At Leafield, we take part in Bikeability cycle training, which equips children with vital life skills. Pupils not only learn to cycle, they gain independence, social skills and a sense of wellbeing. After Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and report increased confidence.
Junior Citizen
Our Year 6 Leafield pupils attend the Junior Citizens Trust, which has been in existence since 1991 and is offered free of charge to every year six state pupil in Oxfordshire. Each year, approximately 5000 school children take part in the safety activities provided by the Junior Citizens Trust and its partners.
During their two-hour visit, all children experience eight different safety scenarios and each child is given the opportunity to practice making a 999 telephone call. All learning sessions are designed to be interactive, where children are taught a variety of life skills which focus upon how to keep themselves safe whilst potentially helping others who may be in difficulty or distress.
Based on the controlled learning experiences provided, children are encouraged to make decisions which they may face during a real life emergency. Following attendance, each child receives a free work book to allow the learning experience to continue back at school or at home.
Local phone box
In the heart of the Leafield community, there's a charming, old-fashioned telephone box that has been transformed into a delightful mini-gallery. Rather than serving its original purpose, it now proudly showcases the creative talents of our local children. The box regularly features artwork, crafts, and other imaginative projects contributed by the children, creating a vibrant display for the entire village to admire. This unique gallery fosters a strong sense of pride and togetherness in the community, offering a platform for young artists to share their work while brightening up the village with their creativity.
Hedgehog rescue
With funding from Martyn Cox, Wilderness Festival and Leafield garage sale, Leafield Primary is supporting the decline in the number of hedgehogs. We have provided a feeding station and a wildlife camera in our school garden to raise awareness of these nocturnal wild animals. There is still more to do, but we hope our hedgehogs will survive as well as thrive in our village.
Pauline Carter Music
We have links with a fantastic piano teacher, Pauline Carter. Pauline Carter offers piano lessons during school hours. Pauline is an experienced and passionate music educator dedicated to nurturing the musical talents of our students. These lessons provide a wonderful opportunity for children to learn and develop their piano skills without the need for after-school arrangements. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please contact the school office for more information.
